Metal: 

Aluminum is currently the most common metal body material, which has the characteristics of low density, high strength, high plasticity and excellent thermal conductivity.

The reason is mainly because of the high cost and poor precision control, in addition to the phone's internal layout, component distribution, etc. Those are limited by the metal case, which undoubtedly raises the technical threshold of cell phone manufacturers. 


However, with the maturity of the metal processing process in the past few years, these are no longer a big problem, and the metal thousand-RMB phones that can be seen everywhere is the best proof.


Glass: 

Compared to metal,glass body of the phone looks not only beautiful, but also has a very delicate touch,  and not too slippery. 

However, glass is not perfect, such as easily become a "fingerprint collector".In addition, its fragile nature can not change, so the risk of breaking is also very high.



Ceramic and others:

Xiaomi 5 had more than ten technologies, "3D ceramic body" is listed in it. In fact, Xiaomi is not the first manufacturer to bring such a the material as ceramic to the cell phone field.


Common ceramic materials are mainly kaolinite, Zirconia, etc. OnePlus phone X ceramic version was used is Zirconia. 

Compared to the glass with a similar texture, the manufacturing process of the ceramic body is much more complex.

From the introduction of OnePlus website, first of all, Zirconium sand was ground and screened, and then through a series of key steps such as kneading, granulation, and finally forging at a high temperature of more than a thousand degrees Celsius. 


Here was not yet able to see the final product, in order to finally get the perfect ceramic body, needing the forging of the finished material for nearly 20 processes, including plane rough grinding, fine grinding, polishing.
